Cyano MPLC

The Cyano group (CN) is a highly polar bond.  It is as polar as Silanol groups (SI-OH).  This means that bonded phases with a terminal Cyano group can be substituted for bare silica using the same chromatographic conditions.  The advantage of this is that Cyano Bonded Phase is not sensitive to trace amounts of water in the mobile phase.  Bare silica is very sensitive to small amounts of water and eventually becomes chromatographically inactive.  Once inactivated, it is extremely difficult to reactivate it.

Cyano Bonded Phase can also be used in Reversed Phase mode.  However, since the number of carbons between the silica gel surface and the terminal cyano group is small, the retention is not as strong as C18 or C8. That is, Cyano Silica is the least reactive of the silica phases in Reversed Phase mode so the retention times are low, which means a shortening of separation times.

Recommended Applications:

  • Cyclosporins from serum/blood
  • Antidepressants from serum
  • Benzalkonium Chloride from aqueous solution
  • Beta-blockers from serum
  • Carbohydrates from aqueous solution
  • Narcotics from plasma
  • Herbicides from water

For MPLC (Medium Pressure Liquid Chromatography)

Cyano MPLC is available in porosities of 10, 300Å, and 500Å and a particle size distribution of 20-45µm.

Quality and diversity

Cyano MPLC is manufactured on Sorbtech’s Premium RfÔ Spherical Silica Gel which boasts narrow pore and particle distributionsensuring optimal selectivity, capacity, efficiency, low operating pressure, and shorter processing time.

Purity

Premium Rf Spherical Silica Gel is manufactured to a high chemical purity standard (99.95% SiO2) Organics and trace metals content are controlled within stringent limits.  Each production batch has undergone extensive quality control testing to ensure reliable lot-to-lot performance.  This rigid control of chemical purity, surface area and pore size, ensure our silica will yield reproducible separation results and allow for direct scale-up without requiring time-consuming method redevelopment.

Robust

Our spherical silicas are mechanically robust and can, therefore, be repacked multiple times in either analytical or preparative scale columns.
