HPLC Columns for Cannabis Potency and Profiling

HPLC has come to be the preferred method for potency determination. This is because the acid form of THC (THCA) is thermally unstable and cannot be analyzed as THCA using GC. Only HPLC is capable of assaying THCA.

Total THC = THCA + THC

Using HPLC we can identify and assay the actual cannabinoid composition, both neutral and acid forms, without the necessity of chemical derivatization.

Methods commonly produce results in 15 minutes or less using reversed phase chromatography with UV detection. This economical approach keeps the instrument and solvent cost affordable to most laboratories, although the investment in an MS detector will substantially increase sensitivity.
