Drying Hydrocarbons with Sorbent Technologies’ Desiccant Products

Problem

Chemical plant operations with unacceptable levels of moisture in various hydrocarbon process streams have found that water can cause process problems such as poisoning/deactivating catalysts, or corroding piping, and fouling instrumentation.

Solution

Let Sorbent Technologies help you select an activated alumina desiccant for your specific application(s).

Example hydrocarbons where low moisture levels have been successfully removed with alumina desiccants include:

  • Propane / LPG / Butane
  • Propylene / Butene
  • BTX Streams
  • Hydraulic fluids
  • Kerosene and jet fuels
  • Freon
  • Styrene
  • Pentane / hexane / heptane

Application Notes

Activated aluminas can be used in dehydration applications for both gases and liquids. These are products that the chemical industry has time-tested and proven reliable for complex separations and purifications. Our products are carefully produced to meet the following application requirements:

  • Consistent separation and purification performance
  • High separation efficiency
  • Good stability in most solvents and at elevated temperatures
  • Available at reasonable cost

In most applications, the adsorption process is reversible, and the adsorbed water can be desorbed by applying heat/energy. The alumina desiccant is regenerated for multiple uses by removing the physisorbed water layers illustrated in the figure:

As many as 250 regenerations and re-uses are accomplished by relatively low temperatures, i.e., 180oC for a couple hours with dry purge gas. We can help with your selection of product based on the application and regeneration requirements.
