Thiol (SH) – Metal Scavenger

Thiol (SH) is a silica gel with a surface functionalization of thiol groups (S-H); that is, silica gel surface-modified with 1-propane thiol.  This material is an effective adsorbent material and scavenger for electrophiles and toxic heavy metals.  A wide range of operating conditions are possible.

Electrophiles that are adsorbed include:

  • Alkyl, benzyl, and allyl halides
  • Acid chlorides
  • Isocyanates

Heavy metals that are scavenged include:

  • Mercury (Hg)
  • Lead (Pb)
  • Cadmium (Cd)
  • Palladium (Pd)
  • Platinum (Pt)
  • Copper (Cu)
  • Silver (Ag)
