C4 Silica Gel (Butyl Phase)

C4 silica gel is used for Reversed Phase chromatography for the separation of hydrophobic substances. Retention times are shorter than on C8 and C18 phases.

C4 Silica Gel (Butyl Phase)

It is less lipophilic than C18 and C8 because it has shorter alkyl chains. 

This phase is recommended for compounds that are highly retained on C18 or C8.
