Activated Alumina – TLC Grade

Primarily used for thin layer chromatography plate preparation. It is also useful as a packing media in pressurized chromatography columns.

It’s available in three surface modifications:

  1. Acidic
  2. Neutral
  3. Basic

The neutral grade is offered with or without gypsum (11% – as a binding agent).

In order to detect substances that do not have a chromophore, either use the alumina with UV254 indicator already added, or you can add a UV254 indicator (purchased separately).

The following classes of compounds have been separated on alumina thin layer plates:

  • Alcohols
  • Alkaloids
  • Amines and amino acids
  • Peptides and proteins
  • Carbohydrates and carbonyl compounds
  • Dyes and pigments
  • Compounds with heterocyclic nitrogen
  • Compounds with phosphorous and/or sulfur
  • Hydrocarbons
  • Pesticides
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Sulfonates and stabilizers
